Spanish Language Schools

As the world seems to be getting smaller, more people are interested in attending Spanish language schools to learn Spanish, or, for native Spanish speakers, to learn in their native language while living in the United States.

As more immigrants arrive from Mexico, Central and South America, Spanish is becoming a useful language to learn for marketing and customer relations. Businesses who reach out to customers and literally “speak their language” are often more successful that English-only corporations.

Many companies seek to place Spanish ads in Hispanic neighborhoods and to turn diversity into increased popularity and sales. These companies may send staff to Spanish language schools so they may be able to communicate with the Spanish-speaking public.

Other Spanish Language schools teach courses, such as GED and vocational classes in Spanish for new immigrants who are learning English, but have not yet achieved the level that would allow them to complete a degree in English.

Spanish Language Schools for those who want to learn Spanish are often part-time and have classes at night, but there are also some intensive courses offered in the daytime, particularly in summer. Some students prefer to go to Mexico or Spain for an intensive, total immersion course in the Spanish language.

There are few things that help promote language learning more effectively than living in the country where that language is spoken and to speak only that language with the natives.

Many of these immersion programs offer full-day classes with native speakers, accommodation in dorms or with families, and various cultural activities. These overseas immersion courses are considered the first step to further language learning, since few people can become fluent in a language after 4-6 weeks.

Many students attend Spanish language schools once or several times a week in the evenings after work. The courses usually teach reading, writing and conversational skills, and provide an introduction to Spanish and Hispanic culture.
Usually a native Spanish speaker conducts the classes entirely in Spanish, but some assistance may be given in English. Many Spanish language schools have language labs that can be freely used by students. These labs include tapes and other materials that will facilitate learning the language in one’s spare time.

For recent immigrants to the United States, Spanish language schools that teach basic courses in Spanish might be an excellent way to begin one’s path toward a career.

Although English is usually required to find a good job in the US, Many recent immigrants prefer to take classes in Spanish while also taking English courses. This will enable the immigrant student to improve English and career skills at the same time.

Many Spanish language schools for Spanish speakers offer GED courses, and technical courses, such as culinary arts and computer science. The approach of offering courses in one’s native language is easier for many immigrants than expecting them to master English before taking vocational courses.

The cost of attending Spanish language schools may be expensive or reasonable, depending on the school. The students usually take individual classes rather than enrolling in an elaborate course with many distribution requirements.
Therefore, the student can adjust the cost of his or her education depending on the classes that are needed. It is easier for many students to pay by the class than it is to deal with heavy tuition fees.

Spanish language schools for those who want to learn Spanish are located all over the country, and, given the popularity of the language, it isn’t difficult to find a Spanish course close by. Courses in Spanish may be found wherever there is a large Latino population, such as Miami, New York, Texas and California.

School Loan Consolidation

School loan consolidation refers to the practice of putting all student loans into one unit and paying them off with one convenient payment.

Most students, even those with scholarships to their university, college or technical school need some form of financial assistance in the form of private of federal loans, and many graduates find that they are still paying off student loans well into the future.

For those students who have several loans, this can be quite burdensome, especially if these loans are grouped separately and the graduate has to keep track of several different payment schedules. With school loan consolidations, a lot of the headache of keeping track of student loans is eliminated, and school loan consolidation can save a lot of money.

Many students find that, after school loan consolidation, they end up paying up to 67% less a month. No wonder school loan consolidation makes a lot of sense.

There are two general types of loans available to students: private loans and federal loans. Private loans are usually given by the bank or another lending institution and have relatively low rates of interest and a longer period of time required to pay back the loan.

This is true of student loans granted by these private institutions, whereas regular loans may have more requirements. Federal loans have even lower rates of interest than private loans and longer periods before repayment is due.

Federal loans may lend lower amounts of money, so a student may have to get several federal loans to cover his or her education. However, many loans can be quite generous, depending on the type of loan rewarded. Both kinds of loans can be placed under one heading for school loan consolidation.

An important tip to remember for school loan consolidation is never to consolidate federal loans and private loans. The reason for this is that federal loans are granted at a much lower rate of interest, and consolidating a federal loan with a private loan may raise the rate of the federal loan.

Private loan rates cannot be lowered if they are consolidated with federal loans, and this practice is usually not allowed. Therefore, if you have one private loan and one federal loan, you will have to continue to pay them separately. However, if your loan packages consists entirely of federal or private loans, they can easily be consolidated for simple repayment.

There are many different kinds of school loan consolidation packages available, including:

~ Equal payments

~ Select 2 graduated payments

~ Select 5 graduated payments

~ Income sensitive payments

~ Extended equal payments

Equal payment is the most basic type of loan consolidation plan, and involves paying off the same rate of principle and interest every month.

The other forms of school loan consolidation are flexible and intended to meet the needs of the borrower. Select 2 and select 5 graduated payments are a good option for those who are still in school and are unable to spend a large amount every month on loans.

Select 2 graduated payments allow the borrower to pay only the interest on the first two years, and after that, the borrower will pay the regular combination of the interest and the principle.

Select 5 graduated payments allow the borrower to pay only interest for the first five years, a small percentage of the principle between the 3rd and the 5th year, and settle into a regular payment schedule after the five year period is completed.

Income sensitive payments adjust the payments according to the borrower’s income, and extended equal payments require lower premiums for a longer amount of time.

Pharmacy Schools

For those who are interested in a career in the medical profession and are interested in types of medicine, there are many pharmacy schools available offering vocational degrees to doctorates.

Before looking at pharmacy schools, it is useful to consider what area of pharmacy is best suited to you. There are those who attend pharmacy schools to become full-fledged pharmacists, whereas others are involved in tested new medicines and organize clinical trials.

Most pharmacy schools offer a Pharm D or a PhD, and some vocational schools train students to become pharmacists’ assistants. Some prefer to get a certificate and work with a pharmacist before going to pharmacy schools and enrolling in the full, four-year program.

The Pharm D is the most common course offered at pharmacy schools and is a four year, full-time course that offers students an opportunity to specialize in one of three areas:

~ Pharmaceutical Care

~ Pharmaceutical Sciences

~ Pharmaceutical health Policy

Pharmaceutical care is a degree that offers a wide variety of job opportunities, and graduates often work in hospitals, clinics, poison control centers, long-term care facilities and pharmacies.
Much of this work is done in a clinical setting, although there is a good amount of classroom work as well. The clinical work is done under the guidance of a supervisor and requires direct contact with patients.

The student explains the nature of the medications to the patient, what they are composed of, how they work, and how they should be taken. The student is available to answer any questions, and can ask the supervisor for assistance, if necessary.

Evaluation usually occurs through written exams, practical examinations and passing a board exam at the end of the course. Some students have to take the Board exam several times before passing and receiving a license.

Many graduates are able find jobs through programs at the pharmacy schools, and the internships included as part of the program of study help to give students the experience they need to find a good position in a pharmacy a hospital, or other places that hire pharmacists.

Many students who go to pharmacy schools are not studying to become pharmacists, but prefer to be scientists. Graduates from courses in Pharmaceutical Sciences work in labs, universities, government agencies and for drug companies. Many of those who learn pharmaceutical sciences do research to find new forms of medication and to test medication through clinical trials prior to government approval.

A good part of this course is spent in the lab, but there is also classroom work. The final part of this course is spent in developing a thorough experiment, and many students are given grade according to their lab technique and written exams.

Those who would like a career involving pharmaceuticals but do not feel that they can embark on a four-year program at a college, university or pharmacy school may attend vocational school to train to be a pharmacists assistant. This course can be completed in a year or less, and the graduate is awarded with a certificate stating that he or she is qualified to work with a pharmacist.

These assistants label and fill prescriptions, and sometimes answer a customers’ questions about a certain medication (but more detailed questions are directed to the pharmacist). A pharmacist’s assistant may be employed in a pharmacy, a hospital or a long-term care center.

This course can be taken on evening and weekends, and in some cases, on-line. There is financial aid available at most vocational schools and many students who take out student loans are able to pay them back in a relatively short amount of time.

Online Nursing Courses

The internet has afforded students in all disciplines with opportunities that were never dreamt of decades ago; who would have thought that there would be online nursing courses turning out many qualified nurses every year?

It is possible to earn a nursing degree online, and there are online nursing courses that offer RN, BSN and MSN degrees.

Of course, online nursing courses require the prospective nurse to go to a local hospital or medical center to complete his or her clinical training, but it is possible that the nurse can complete his or her degree without having to visit the campus.

This means that online nursing courses can be based in one part of the country and be taken by a student on the other coast. Therefore, competition between online nursing courses can be fierce, and this competition benefits the customer, or the student.

Online Nursing courses teach the same core curriculum that is learned in conventional nursing schools, such as Anatomy, Biology, Chemistry and special subject related directly to the nursing profession, such as dealing with a patient and explaining a diagnosis.

Online classes are hosted on the nursing site, and lectures can be viewed or read in written form. Often instructors will arrange times for online chats with students to answer any questions or to discuss further any topics. Homework assignments are e-mailed or faxed to the instructor.

For online nursing coursed, online work often is used for evaluating progress instead of exams, but the school may require that the nurse attend a proctored exam in a certain area between the student’s home and the school.

Many online nursing courses allow the student the luxury of learning at home without having to travel out of his or her way to attend courses. This is an ideal situation for a parent with significant childcare responsibilities or a student who works full-time.

Some online nursing courses allow the student a flexible schedule to complete assignments, although many online nursing courses expect the student to keep up with the traditional learners.

This requires a lot of self-discipline and motivation to be able to complete assignments along with the class without the constant presence of an instructor or other students.

However, any of these assignments can be discussed with the instructor or the other students online.

The requirements for admission to online nursing schools are the same as those needed for traditional nursing schools.

These requirements include:

~ A high school diploma or a GED
~ SAT and ACT scores
~ A GPA of at least 2.0
~ 3 years of math, including Algebra II and Geometry
~ 4 years of English
~ 2 years of a foreign language

These requirements may vary from school to school, and it is necessary to check what you need before applying. If you are missing some credits from high school, it is possible to take the missing course as an adult education class before applying to online nursing schools.

It is essential that, before embarking on a nursing program, that you ensure that your school is an accredited institution. This is necessary to earn your degree and to continue to another degree program.

Many students wish to continue and apply for an MSN program. This degree requires a degree from an accredited nursing school, the title of “Registered Nurse”, a good GPA and an application.

After graduating from nursing school, a prospective nurse must pass a state exam certifying him or her to practice nursing in a particular state.

If you move to another state, it is essential to find out how your degree will transfer, or if you will be able to take another RN exam to qualify in the new State of residence.

Online Business School

For those who want a practical degree that will mean more earning power, online business school is a good choice.

Technology has revolutionized correspondence courses to the extent that it is possible to complete an entire business degree at an online business school without every having to venture on campus (except, perhaps, for a final examination).

Online business school courses can easily fit into the busiest schedules, and many people have full-time jobs or can manage family obligations while taking courses in their spare time. Online business school is an excellent option for those who want to get a great education without having to commute or to live on campus.

You can find the same kinds of courses at an online business school that you can find at a traditional business school, including classes in:

~ Finance
~ Business Administration
~ Marketing
~ Human Relations

You can earn a certificate, a Bachelor’s degree on an MBA online. Some schools offer flexible scheduling, whereas others expect the distance student to keep up with the classroom schedule. Which online business school course you apply for depends on your needs and learning style.

The coursework at an online business school is the same as that offered to on-site students. Lectures can be downloaded via an audio and/or visual file from the online business school website, or a student may be able to purchase DVDs of lectures.

Professors often have chat groups and specific times during which online students can ask questions via chat. Otherwise, a student can e-mail all questions to the instructor. Assignments can be e-mailed to the instructor and sent via attachments or faxed to his or her office.

Corrections can be scanned and sent back to the student. Papers can be handed in and returned through the same method. Due to the nature of online schooling, the writing component is weighed more heavily in the final grade than examinations, although a student may have to venture onto campus for a final exam or to go to an approved location to take a proctored exam.

Since students from all over the country and the world can apply to online business schools, there is incredible competition between institutions.

It can no longer be assumed, for instance, that a certain number of students will have to apply to a particular business school because the location is convenient for them, or because they already live in that state. Therefore, online business schools are geared very much toward pleasing the “customer” or the student, and as any business student knows, increased competition means better customer service.

Therefore, there are many advantages to applying to online business schools, since administrators are constantly improving programs to attract new students to their sites.

The application process for online business schools is quite similar to the procedure necessary for admission to traditional colleges and universities.

If you are applying to a vocational online business school, you may need fewer documents than if you are applying to a college or a university.

An online business school at a college or university may require most or all of the following:

~ An application
~ Letters of recommendation
~ SAT and/or ACT scores
~ An application fee
~ An essay

Other documents and transcripts may be necessary.

Some students worry that by attending online business school, they will not be able to make the connections necessary to find a good job after they complete their degree.

First, a business degree is a very profitable investment, and will usually lead to a good job.

Secondly, internships are always available to business students, and a great way to build your resume is to get experience with a firm through internships.

Third, those who are enrolled in online business school have the advantage of flexible schedules that will allow them to work, gain experience and to build their resumes.

At many online business schools, the same career development programs are available to distance students and on-campus students alike. If this is a concern, it may be worthwhile to enroll in an online business school not far from your home so you can periodically visit with the career placement staff.

Trade Schools

Trade schools are designed for the career-oriented students who do not want to waste time taking courses they do not need. Traditional colleges will award a degree, but many hours are spent taking distribution requirements that are not related the main subject the student is going to study.

Trade schools are geared toward a specific profession, and are a good choice for those who want to focus on their careers and do not want to spend the time and money on a traditional college or university degree. Trade schools usually give the graduate as many career opportunities as a four year bachelor’s degree, often in half the time.

Trade schools offer courses in virtually any area of study that is useful in today’s marketplace.

Some of these areas include:

~ Information Technology

~ Art and Design

~ Media Art

~ Mechanical or automotive Studies

~ Medical Technology

~ Culinary Arts

Information technology is one of the most popular majors at trade schools, and a student can learn almost any area of computing available, including programming, web site design and repair.

A student can learn new programs or create his or her own programs, and learn HTML and other languages needed to create web sites. Since almost everyone has a computer these days, computer repair technicians are very much in demand, both for businesses and individuals.

Art and design courses at trade schools may include architecture, graphic design. Interior design and fashion design.

These courses are a great way to take native artistic ability and to make a career based on one’s talent in visual arts. Architecture students learn theory and spend a good amount of time drawing and creating models at home.

Graphic design courses teach students the basic principles of graphic design and how to use their skill in the field of advertising.

Prospective interior designers learn through classroom and practical studies and, after graduation, often work as apprentices under a supervisor before embarking on their own careers.

Fashion design courses teach the student how to take a concept, transform it into a sketch, and how to transform the sketch into a new, trendy creation.

Many students taking art and design majors in trade schools also learn marketing strategies to sell their work.

Many students enrolled in Mechanical or automotive studies at trade schools are training to become plumbers, electricians or to repair cars.

These courses are hands-on with minimal classroom work. When one is training in these areas, he or she can make actual repairs under the guidance of a supervisor. Many automotive or mechanical degrees are fairly intensive, although many earn these degrees while working full-time in another occupation.

Medical technology courses at trade schools instruct students how to take X-Rays, CAT scans and ultrasound. These courses are relatively brief, and a student can earn his or her degree in a short amount of time.

Lab technicians require more training, and pharmacology courses are usually taken for a few years, allowing the student to work with a pharmacist as part of his or her training.

Medical assistants with specializes knowledge on the use of medical equipment are currently in demand, and by taking these courses at trade schools, many people can embark on a profitable career in a relatively brief period of time.

Since trade schools are known to be career oriented, it is understood that the student cannot always put his or her life on hold to earn a degree.

Therefore, there are part-time, intensive on online options available at many trade schools, as well as some financial aid, loans and work study options for those who want to take a course on a full-time basis. Almost anyone with motivation to succeed can do well in trade schools.

For those students, the major decisions to make are what field to study and what trade school to attend.

Although many music schools are fiercely competitive, once one has gained admission to an elite music school, the greater the chances of realizing one’s dreams of pursuing a career in music.

You can find a music school that specializes in your area, but most schools offer instruction in:

~ Voice
~ Instrumental Music
~ Orchestral Music
~ Musical Composition
~ Conducting

Many fine music schools, such as Julliard in New York, are located in major Metropolitan areas, but Indiana University Music school, situated in the pleasant college town, Bloomington, is also a fine music school with many prestigious graduates. Choosing the right music school means opting for an excellent instructors and facilities over location.

One of the hardest parts to getting into the music school of your choice may be the audition. This is the major component of the application, although some academic work is taken into account. This may possibly be the most anxiety-ridden audition of your life so far; there is a lot riding on it.

The important thing to remember is that all of those auditioning are also nervous, and it is a good idea to have apply and audition for a variety of schools, in case you are not admitted to your reach school. However, many candidates are pleasantly surprised, and, based on an excellent audition, are admitted to the school they have dreamt about for years.

Students attending music school are looking for a fine faculty over many other considerations, since music, unlike many other disciplines, requires one-on-one instruction. Many music students have the opportunity to learn with musicians and composers whose work they have admired since they were young.

Others may be instructed by relative unknowns who, nonetheless understand music and the art of teaching. Many music schools have ensembles in residence who are available to perform on a regular basis and to instruct students. Many would-be-performers welcome the opportunity of working with an ensemble and honing their skills under their instruction.

The first-year music student is concerned primarily with working on his or her technique and developing musical or vocal abilities. Vocal students learn advanced warm-up techniques, vocal skills and how to choose a repertoire. Many who are studying opera learn about how to develop operatic roles.

The first recital is usually held after the first semester is completed and involves a private performance.

In the spring, there is usually a public recital which may or may not be graded. In the following years of music school a student may take practical classes in music history and music theory, and as the course progresses, he or she is more focused on the final performance, which may be a full-scale operatic production or playing with an ensemble.

Many report that, since competition is often keen in music school, the pressure to succeed is intense. However, others enjoy this intensity, and make lasting friendships in music school, and may even form bands.

Those who graduate from music school are usually in a better position to succeed in professional auditions and productions over those who simply who turn up to try out for a role.

Still, most performers’ careers depend on auditioning well, and many of these skills are learned in music school. Music school also provides the aspiring musician with useful contact which will further his or her prospects for success in the performing arts.

It is a well-known story that a guy decided to enroll in law school “because he couldn’t stand the sight of blood.” However, most people do not attend law school because they didn’t feel like going to medical school, but because of the advantages a law degree can offer.

Almost anyone, from artists to engineers, can benefit from a law degree, and it can be an extra feather in their cap when it comes to applying for work or to promoting or advancing their current skills. Others pursue various types of lawyering part-time while engaged in other professions such as teaching or the arts.

Going to law school is great for someone who wants something to fall back on, but those who succeed in law school are often those who have a true passion for the subject. Although half-hearted law students might pass the bar, the rigors involved in law school, especially in the first year, usually allow the most sincere students to thrive.

Those seeking admission to law school must have completed or must be in the process of completing an undergraduate degree and should take the LSAT, which is required for all law schools that are approved by the American Bar Association. Sometimes there is an application fee of around $100.

Many students balk at this, but this is typical for the more competitive schools who want to keep their application pool down to only those who are the most dedicated to attending their school. Many law schools have an interview process while many others do not, because they feel it is unfair to out of state or international students who are unable to travel to their campuses for an interview.

Many colleges and universities offer Pre-law courses, but it is not necessary to major in Pre-Law to be admitted to a good Law School. Admissions people at Law schools are looking for well-rounded students with good grades in a variety of subject areas.

Volunteer programs and internship, especially if they are related to the legal field, help a student gain acceptance. Many admissions workers at law schools say they want to see applications from people who pursue many activities rather than those who just sit in the library all day. However, the better your grades are, the better your chances of being accepted at most law schools.

Your major can be something that meshes well with the legal profession, such as political science, or your major as an undergrad can have nothing to do with law; many drama majors have gone on to become successful lawyers.

The first year of law school has the well-deserved reputation of being demanding. Many law students describe it as “intellectual basic training”. There is quite a bit of reading in addition to time spent in classes.

Most law schools employ the “case study method” when educating first year law students. This involves looking at actual legal cases and going through the entire procedure until the verdict or the solution is reached.

This is an in-depth and effective way to gain knowledge about the legal profession, and is almost like following a case as it is happening. Many first year law students deal with scores of such cases, and become experts at this method by the end of the year.

An examination is usually given at the completion of the first year, and the third and final year is dedicated to preparing for the bar exam. The second year of law school, therefore, is usually much less stressful than the first and the third years, and is usually spent taking core courses on lawyering as well as electives.

Summers are spent on internships in the legal field to build one’s resume and familiarity with the legal profession. Those who want to take the challenge of attending law school while working can complete a law school degree in 6 years rather than three by taking night classes.

Home Schooling

It is not unusual for a parent today to remove his or her children from the school system and to set up a home school. Although this practice has been, and still is, met with some suspicion, the home school movement is gaining increasing acceptance, as more parents opt for home schooling.

There are many home school success stories, which remove common objections that a child may not be able to receive the same quality of instruction at home or may not enjoy an active social life. Establishing a home school is certainly challenging, but many parents find that they reap many rewards.

There are many reasons parents decide to home school their children. Many parents decide to educate their children at home so they can provide an education that is consistent with the family’s religious traditions or values. As stories of school violence and drugs become more prevalent, many parents believe that a home school will provide a child with a better environment than a regular school will.

Parents of gifted children, as well as those whose children have “learning differences”, may feel that the school system does not address their child’s way of thinking and reasoning, and believe that a home environment will provide the child with more personal attention that a conventional school setting.

Finally, many of these parents would otherwise send their child to a private school, but feel that the available private schools are either too far away or too expensive. Although reasons for deciding to set up a home school may be different, these parents are unified in the concern they feel for their children and their desire to give them the best, most personalized education possible.

Setting up a home school is not easy or cheap. Many parents decide to team up and to provide “co-op instruction” or at least to share materials. Textbooks can be purchased, but many parents prefer to download information from the internet.

Parents who home school children at different grade levels may feel that they have a juggling act, or may educate all of the children at once and allow them to absorb the material according to their ability to grasp the material. In a home school setting, grade levels are not so rigidly fixed, and many parents feel that they can educate their children together.

The advantage to setting up a home school for one’s children, is that one has the flexibility to schedule the day according to how a particular lesson is going. For instance, a child may raise an interesting question which may lead to some immediate field research.

A parent can take the children in a car to a park for a lesson in geology or to a bank to teach the children about economics. Classes do not need to begin an end, but every errand can be a new educational opportunity. Many parents feel that education for child involves his or her waking hours, and does not begin and end at school. This can foster a child’s curiosity about the world and love of knowledge.

A common criticism of the home school movement is that it may not provide sufficient social stimulation or extra-curricular activities. However, this objection is not based on a necessary result of the home school, since these issues can be easily remedied.

Parents can make contact with other parents who home school their kids and arrange social activities for the children. Since the schedules are more free, it is easier for these children to get together. Many school districts allow children who are home schooled to participate in sports and theatrical activities. Children who learn at home are becoming increasingly accepted into society and into elite universities.

Art Schools

If you have always had a flair for art and are interested in making a living doing what you love, there are many art schools available that will allow you to hone your skills and to turn your passion into a career.

However, if you prefer to pursue art as a hobby, many art schools offer part-time recreational courses for those who pursue art as a pastime. Some art schools are specialized and focus on one area, such as film, graphic design, or fine arts. Other schools offer over a dozen majors in almost every area of art.

Some fine art schools are dedicated to “art for art’s sake” whether it is sculpting, painting, drawing or photography. Other arts schools have more of a vocational focus and are geared toward teaching the artist to use his or her skills in the marketplace.

Common offerings at art schools include:

~ Animation
~ Fashion
~ Graphic design
~ Photography
~ Interior Design
~ Film
~ Fine Arts

The length of the course depends on what kind of degree you are looking for. Some vocational art schools will award a certificate after a year or two, whereas some art schools and programs at colleges and universities offer a full BFA (Bachelor of Fine Arts) or MFA (Master of Fine Arts) to those who have already completed an undergraduate degree.

Animation courses these days draw heavily on digital animation, and some of these courses are online and can be completed in your home.

Fashion design will teach the student to bring a fashion concept to paper and then to actual clothing and accessories. Some fashion courses will also teach marketing techniques for those who want to directly sell their own work.

Art schools usually combine some classroom and practical work, although this depends on the program. Graphic and Interior design might involve more lectures, whereas fine art and film might focus on encouraging the students to create their own original work.

There are two main approaches in film or fine arts schools. Some are more academically oriented, and teach the student principles of art through learning from the masters. The course may begin what an art or film appreciation course and the student will eventually develop his or her own work as final project.

Some art schools will place a camera or a brush in the student’s hand from the first day and will encourage him or her to first create new work and then to receive feedback. Both approaches have advantages and disadvantages, and which school to choose is up to the student.

Most art schools will ask for a portfolio before accepting an applicant, but some very basic courses will not ask for a portfolio. The candidate is usually invited to an interview and he or she must have completed high school or at least a GED, or a high school equivalency test.

The most prestigious art schools are usually the most competitive and students who attend these institutions usually have the greatest chances for success. However, not all successful artists attended the best art schools, and it is possible to attend an “average” art school and to do quite well in the art school.

Some students who were initially rejected by a particular art school often apply again after a semester or two at another school and can gain admission.

Usually some financial aid is available at art schools, and usually this is need or ability based. Students who choose to attend art school full-time often require scholarships or loans, but some students prefer to work and attend school part-time. Many students are able to pursue work-study, and to work in art-related fields while working towards their degrees.
